More Fall Fun!

Fall is my favorite season for many reasons, but I think one big reason is because of all of the fun, family activities we are able to enjoy!  I wanted to post about each of these events separately, but I think it will be easiest to just put them all in one post so that I will be caught up and ready to put up our Halloween pictures and post before Thanksgiving! haha

A few weeks ago we had a blast at Boo in the Zoo!  This is a fun event where you are able to view the animal exhibits, but also leave with a bag full of candy and other treats for the kids.  Since Lydia had Emmersyn to pal around with we only thought it would be fair for Mackaylan to bring a friend so Hope went with us as well.  I love being able to make memories as a family, and sharing these special moments with friends is always an added bonus.

Since the beginning of September we have been meeting with our Bucket Group each Wednesday night.  This is a small group through out church where we are able to develop relationships as we dig into God's word and live life together.  Last week we joined up with another group that meets nearby for a bonfire.  We had a blast!  I love a good bonfire (especially when marshmallows are involved!) and being able to share it with friends made it even better!

On Saturday, we went to Clemson to tailgate and enjoy the game with some of Mickey's work crew.  This was Lydia's first Clemson game, and even though Mackaylan has been before, I think this will count as the first one she actually remembers.  The girls loved all of the excitement at the beginning of the game and Mickey enjoyed being able to teach Mackaylan a little about football and Lydia how to do the Tiger cheer!  We only stayed until halftime, but we enjoyed every minute we were there.

Whew, that's a lot of fun for one family!  And to think we haven't even made it to Halloween weekend! :)

He Survived the Big 3-5!

Last week Mickey turned the big 3-5!  I had the day all planned out in my head in order to make it special for the man I love.  That was mistake #1.  Everytime I have it all planned out something always goes wrong!

Anyway, the girls and I woke up a little early and headed into the kitchen to make one of Mickey's favorite breakfast treats:  Monkey Bread.  I had found a recipe for Monkey Bread Muffins on Pinterest and the girls and I got to work.  All was going well until.... the house filled with smoke b/c the brown sugar liquid was running all in the bottom of the oven.  Instead of just taking the muffins out and calling it a wash I decided that maybe it would stop so I let them continue to cook.  (Have I said before that I do not always make the best decisions in the kitchen?!?)

Needless to say, we had to open all the doors and windows and probably woke up the rest of the neighborhood when the fire alarm started going off!  This was the first time this has happened in  our new home so we didn't really know how to get it off.  All I can say is thank goodness Mickey was home or it might still be going off! haha  After that, the girls and I retreated to the back porch and decided breakfast would consist of our usual....Bojangles!

After church we headed to Mickey's race to continue the birthday celebration!  Mickey loves racing his 4-wheeler and we do not always go, but it was his day so we joined him at the track.  It was rainy and very muddy, but it always makes me happy when I get to spend time with Mickey doing something he loves.

He had a great start and actually took the hole shot, but shortly after that he flipped off when he ran into a tree!  (Hence the title of this post, He Survived the Big 3-5!)  Being the tough man he is, he brought the 4-wheeler back to the truck, made a few adjustment, and continued the race.  Thank goodness all that was injured was his wrist and maybe a little bit of his ego! LOL

Following the race, we had an impromptu family party at our house complete with cake, ice cream and presents!

All in all it was a great day because we were able to spend it with those we love most!  I'm so blessed to have this man in my life.  He loves us unconditionally and we love him with all of our hearts!  Happy Birthday, Mickey!  Here's to many more....

Fall Fun

The past few weekends we have been trying to be very intentional about spending time as a family doing fun activities together.  When Mickey was working in Raleigh we were very intentional about making the most of our time together and we both agreed that we wanted that to continue once we decided to return home.  However, we have found ourselves slowly slipping back into our normal weekend routine.  So.. when some of our besties asked us to join them at the apple orchard nearby we jumped at the opportunity.

We had a very fun time taking a hayride and picking apples.  Plus, to top it all off, the apple doughnuts were to die for!!!  Mackaylan was mesmerized with the horses and Lydia was thrilled to be with her two "best friends!" The apples that were available for picking were slim, but we still had a great time being together with our friends.

Last weekend, Grams joined us at Walnut Grove Plantation for their Fall Fest.  There was a battle reenactment and lots of hands-on activities for the girls.  Mackaylan is a history buff so this was right up her ally.  It was all a little over Lydia's head, but she loved the small animal petting area and getting her face painted.  Both of the girls loved getting to pick out a little rag doll to take home as a memento and making their very own corn husk doll. It was a very fun morning!
