#snowdayinthesouth

Tuesday we were all surprised by an unexpected SNOW DAY!!  One of my favorite childhood memories was waking up to an unexpected blanket of snow covering the ground so I was happy to be able to share this moment with Mackaylan as well!

I was up with Lydia (who had a dose of the horrific stomach bug going around) when I heard KK in her room getting ready.  I called her down and as she approacged the bottom of the stairs I opened the front door to reveal a small winter wonderland. She was so surprised!

At first we were only on a 2-hr delay, but that status was quickly changed to closed when the snow started sticking on the road.

While my entire day was spent taking care of this sweet, little princess, I did take some time to walk outside with Mackaylan and snap a few pics. This snow was very wet and not very thick so we were not able to sled, but she and Mickey did have an opportunity to build a snowman.

The snow was beautiful and didn't stick around very long,  but today we are actually enjoying another snow day so I definitely won't complain!

Pics from #snowdayinthesouth Round 2 coming soon!!

#Snow/IceDay2015

Yesterday was the day we have all been waiting on all winter long. ..a SNOW DAY! Now,  we didn't get very much snow,  but we did get a lot of ice and that was enough for school to be cancelled and the sleds to come out!

The sleet and freezing rain stayed on Monday afternoon.  I knew the girls would be anxious to get out and play so I picked up the supplies we needed to make"ice marbles" to help pass the time. We had a great time adding food coloring and water to the balloons and then taking them outside to freeze.  Once they ate frozen you are supposed to peel off the balloon to reveal your "marble." Ours still haven't frozen entirely,  but with the temps in the single digits the next few nights I think it will happen before the weekend.

The girls were up bright and early so we all suited up and headed for one of the big hills in our neighborhood.  It's on the opposite side from our house so Mickey made 3 trips on the 4-wheeler to get us all over to the "sledding zone" safely. The ice was perfect which made the sledding "epic! " Mickey,  Mackaylan,  and Lydia all enjoyed sledding.  Baby Ace and I enjoyed watching them and taking pictures.

Once the sledding was over,  we came back to the house and I made breakfast. In typical Lana fashion,  I burnt the toast,  but luckily we had a new loaf so I was able to make another batch to go with our sausage and eggs. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I love when I can sit down to a hot breakfadt because if usually consists of cereal,  pop tarts,  etc.

Mickey had to go into work around lunchtime,  but the girls and I spent the afternoon cleaning,  organizing, and just enjoying being together.

And then to top it off,  around 5PM, we received the call that school would be closed again today!  Woo hoo! Now we can finish some of the "nesting projects" we started yesterday!

A Girl and Her Lucky Pennies

For some reason this past week Lydia has had a special attachment to "these" two pennies.  Every night before she has gone to sleep she has had to make sure they are tucked nicely under her pillow.  If she wakes up in the middle of the night and can't put her hands on them,  down the stairs she comes! "Mama, I can't find my pennies," she mumbles through tears. Yes,  you read that right...tears!  So,  up the stairs we stumble to find the pennies (or replace them, if necessary!)  Once they are back under her pillow, my little 3-yr old sleepyhead crawls back in bed and drifts back into dreamland.  It beats all I've ever seen, but I wouldn't trade these days for anything!

Some kiddos have a special blanket or a soft stuffed animal that they need to sleep.  For this little girl it is all of the above PLUS two,  lucky pennies!!!
