Just What I Needed

It's five days before Christmas and I still have lots left to do. Shopping. Wrapping. Baking. And the list goes on. I have never been this far behind! This afternoon while I was on the verge of a complete meltdown I pulled out my new favorite devotional, Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young and flipped to what I thought was today's date- December 19th. Was it an accident? Absolutely not! It was a divine appointment with my Creator, and just what I needed to read and apply. God is so good!

Knowing that you may be feeling the same way as Christmas draws closer and closer, I wanted to share these words with you. I hope they speak to your heart just as they did mine.

Do not be weighed down by the clutter in your life: lots of little chores to do sometime, in no particular order. If you focus too much on these petty tasks, trying to get them all out of the way, you will discover that they are endless. They can eat up as much time as you devote to them.

Instead of trying to do all of your chores at once, choose the ones that need to be done today. Let the rest slip into the background of your mind, so I can be in the forefront of your awareness. Remember that your ultimate goal is living close to Me, being responsive to My initiatives. I can communicate with you most readily when your mind is uncluttered and turned toward Me. Seek My Face continually throughout this day. Let My Presence bring order to your thoughts, infusing Peace into your being.

So, my prayer for today (and the rest of this week) is that I will prioritize the most important tasks, work diligently to make sure they are accomplished, and seek His presence in all that I do and say.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. -Proverbs 16:3
