Need a good read?

For the past few days I have been completely absorbed in the book Simple Secrets by Nancy Mehl. It was a perfect blend of suspense and romance to keep me hooked until the end. I love reading books for pleasure that also inspire and encourage my walk with Christ.

Simple Secrets is set in a fictional, Mennonite town of Harmony, Kansas. The main character, Gracie, a city girl, arrives in the town after she unexpectedly inherited her uncle Benjamin's house. Gracie plans to stay in the town for 2 weeks, which would allow her just enough time to gather some of her family's belongings and sell the house. What she didn't expect was to be faced with secrets, decisions, romance, and friendships that would make her question everyting about her life thus far.

Nancy Mehl has a wonderful way with words. Here are a few quotable quotes that were tucked away within the pages of the book that really made me stop and think:

"You might find it a little uncomfortable.. but sometimes you just gotta stand up straight and do watcha gotta do. Backin' down froma a fight ain't never the right way to go. You gotta face your adversaries with your head held high." - Sweetie

"My parents had drilled several strong beliefs into me down through the years. One of them had to do with only playing to an audience of One- and that His opinion was the only one that mattered." - Gracie

"...God disciplines his children through His Word. When a sermon reaches into your heart and shines a light on your wrong attitudes, it is the Holy Spirit bringing His loving conviction." - Gracie

"You be careful stirring that pot, Gracie. If it boils over, people get burned." - Ruth

"God has a whole different sense of time than we do. What looks late for us is sometimes right on time for God." - Ida

"Too many people are looking for a place where they feel comfortable. But life is not just about comfort. It is about being a place where you are needed. Comfortable or not, we all have a special place where God wants to use us.....It is His plan, not mine that counts." - Ida
